At least you know that there are some great shops that you can head to where you will find skateboard decks for a great price.
If you are just getting started in skateboarding, you are probably not going to want to go all out and get a top of the line skateboard deck, because you are going to have to start somewhere and you are probably going to be a little rough at first. You don’t want to spend a ton of money on a skateboard deck only to have it ruined after the first few days.

So if you are just a beginner to skating, your best bet is going to be to not get an Element skateboard deck or other top brand name, and instead stick with a cheap skateboard deck that you are not going to have to worry about ruining. Then as you make progress and become a better skater, you will be able to get rid of that cheap skateboard deck and trade it up for something better.

Skateboard Decks: How to Choose

Now it doesn’t matter if you are looking for cheap skateboard decks or if you are willing to spend a bit more money, because if you have never bought a skateboard deck then you are probably not sure of how to go about it. There are thousands of different decks and companies that you can choose from if you are looking for skateboard deck, so these tips are going to help you out.
Width
One of the first aspects that you are going to have to take into consideration when it comes to buying skateboard decks is the width of the deck. If your balance is not so good and you are going to want to be performing tricks on the board, then you want to get a wider board so that you have more stability.
A lot of the top skaters have thinner boards because they are used to skating and have good balance. Especially if you are just getting started, sticking to a wider board is probably going to offer you the best results here.
Concave
You are also going to have to figure out whether you want to get a concave deck or not. The skateboard decks are usually offered with three different types of concave edges, and so you are going to have to decide on which is right for you. There are the mellow, medium and steep. This factor is really all about personal preference, and how you want to feel when you are on the board.
Again, even figuring out these sorts of things can be tricky if you have never bought a deck before because you are not sure what to look for since you are not used to riding on a skateboard.
Look
You want to love the look of your board, and this is the easiest issue to deal with when it comes to buying a deck, because there are no details that you have to be concerned with and instead you just want to make sure that you find a deck that you like the look of. There are endless styles and designs that you can choose from and so you can surely find one that you just love.
Choosing the right skateboard deck can definitely be a hassle, even if you are a top skater. These tips are going to help you out and make sure that you buy just the right skateboard deck for you.
I’m buying a longboard and I have to choose between 78a and 84a wheels.
What does the a stand for and what effect does it have on the performance of the board?
Thanks in advance.
It’s the scale used to measure hardness of the wheel (durometer). The higher the number, the harder the wheel.
It looks a bit like this:

And has this ‘battle of the brands,’ etc, logo — http://www.skate.8020solutions.com/ on the bottom with orange & black skulls.
I’m pretty peeved that it’s just a deck, given that the prize was a "skateboard." I was going to donate it to one of those Xmas charity toy drives, but how useful is just a deck — are wheels (etc) expensive?
Should I see if I can sell it for a few bucks? If so, where?
Do I make it into a coffee table?
Any good ideas on what to do with it, or creative suggestions for stuff to do with a skateboard deck besides using it to skate on?
1 I couldn’t find anybody to give it to — parents of kids the right age didn’t want ‘em skateboarding (which sucks, yes).
2 I like the idea of donating it — how much should I expect to pay for cheap but decent wheels?
sell it for at least 30 bucks, thats what BLANK boards cost at cbs.
WHEELS TRUCKS AND BEARINGS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE!
were talkin 40 for trucks, 10-20 for wheels, and 15-20 for bearings. best sell it.

try to go with ideas not involving my name…thanks!
black with splattered paint and your name in graphti like red
Okay, I’m 13 and I haven’t skateboarded in awhile (I had to move 7 states away then took awhile to unpack and I’ve been really busy) But now I’m gonna start skating again. But my deck is abit beat, the trucks/wheels are fine. Can I buy a cheap skateboard at walmart/target and put the trucks on it? Or would the skateboard just suck since it has good trucks and wheels but cheap deck?
Oh and do you know where any skate parks are in Alabama? That’d be cool
50 bucks eh? Hmm.. Well right now I’m trying to save up some cash. but when I need a good board I’ll buy one of those
Don;t go for the discount store boards, they are junk Chinese wood. Some are just pressboard. Most of these boards will only hold up for a few days, maybe not even that. The boards have no pop, no concave and are very spongy. If your bards till has a little life in it, then skate it until it dies.
You might want to check at a skateshop to see if they have any clearance decks, or if they know of someone who has a deck that they don;t like, or want to get rid of.
If you need some extra cash, go around the neighborhood, knock on doors and ask if they need any odd jobs done for a few bucks. It’s also a good way to get to know the neighbors and to scope out skate spots.
